Arthur Sidney FLATMAN, son of John Samuel FLATMAN (c. 1871- ) and Elizabeth Ann CORBLE (c. 1873- ), was born on 9th March 1897 in South Lopham, Norfolk and was baptised there on 21st July 1907 with some of his siblings. The ceremony was conducted by Rev. C E EASTWOOD, Rector. Arthur was attested on 7th February 1916. On 8th February 1916 Arthur was posted to the Army Reserve. He was mobilised on 31st March 1916 and posted to the Royal Garrison Artillery depot, Gunner, 71332. On 4th December 1916 he he was posted to the British Expeditionary Force. He joined 155th Heavy Battery R.G.A. in the field on 13th December 1916. He died on 8th February 1917 in France - killed by enemy shell fire. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission grave registration entry for Arthur was “FLATMAN, Gnr. A. S., 71332. 155th Heavy Bty. Royal Garson Artillery. 8th Feb., 1917.”
